FRIDAY 21 FEBRUARY 2020

Dannevirke residents are being congratulated for reducing their water usage, but the Tararua District Council still says the town water supply is at a "delicate point".

Last Friday a letter drop advised of a critical water shortage facing the town, and an urgent need for conservation to increase.

Yesterday the Council said there had been a reduction in the demand for water with businesses and households actively conserving water.

Council had also worked with Horizons Regional Council on the situation.

A spokesperson said efforts from around the table mean that a very delicate point of balance of supply versus demand has been reached.

They said despite having reached this balance, it is absolutely critical that people continue to conserve water wherever possible.
