Westpac has resumed banking services in Dannevirke.

A new temporary branch has been specially fitted inside a shipping container following the closure of the regular branch due to earthquake strengthening concerns.

The branch was closed in October, with customers being advised to use the banks other branches in Pahiatua and Waipukurau.

The temporary container is located in the carpark of the regular branch, and the bank says all normal services along with a 24-hour ATM will be available.

A special exhibition highlighting Ngāti Kahungunu taonga and other treasures opens at MTG Hawke’s Bay in Napier tomorrow.

The exhibition includes significant Māori taonga relating to famous people, places and events.

MTG spokesperson Te Hira Henderson says it is an opportunity to learn more about major rangatira, Māori-Pākehā relationships, famous battles, land loss, contemporary Māori artists, and more.

Henderson says an object of particular significance to Ngāti Kahungunu is the approximately 700 year old hei tiki Te Arawhiti, which originally belonged to Kahungunu, the ancestor which all iwi descendants whakapapa to.

There is free entry to MTG, which is open between 9.30am - 5pm daily.

The Porangahau Golf Club will host its annual Mills Honda sponsored Christmas Cheer tournament tomorrow.

A cup dedicated to Jane Hunter, who passed away as the result of a car accident earlier this year, will be presented for the first time.

Mrs Hunter had been an active member of the golf club for a number of years.

Tee-off is at midday, with a $30 entry fee, with the tournament also open to non-golfers.

There is a $1000 prize up for grabs for a hole-in-one on the No.4 hole.
