Central Hawke's Bays Mike Mohi has chaired his final meeting of the Hawke's Bay Regional Councils' Maori Committee.

Representing Tamatea Taiwhenua, Mr Mohi has been on the committee for eight years.

Tributes were paid to him during this weeks meeting, with a full turnout at Pukemokimoki Marae.

Regional Council Chief Executive James Palmer said Mr Mohi's commitment had strengthened the voice of tangata whenua at governance level, project level and across the organisation.


Police will hold two prohibited firearms amnesty and buy-back collection events in CHB this weekend.

The event at Porangahau will be held at the Memorial Hall tomorrow from 11.30am to 2.30pm, with Central Hawke's Bay College in Waipukurau the venue on Sunday from 11.30am to 2.30pm.

Police say they have been pleased with the positive response from the firearms community so far.
