Hawke's Bay Police are looking for information on the whereabouts of a man with distinctive facial tattoos.

Hauraki Hira, has a warrant out for his arrest for an alleged breach of release conditions, injuring with intent and driving while disqualified.

Police say Hira is considered dangerous, and recommend members of the public do not approach or confront him.

Anyone with information that could assist in locating Hira are asked to call 111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The Tumu ITM Dannevirke team put on a competitive effort in their game against the Saracens side at the 2018 Wakely Shield tournament yesterday.

Dannevirke lead 7-5 at halftime, but couldn't quite hold on for the win, with Saracens taking the game 17-12.

The Centralines sponsored CHB side had the bye yesterday.

Today, CHB will play Dannevirke at 12.45pm at Tareha Reserve in Taradale.


There was a small earthquake in Waipukurau just after twenty to eight last night.

Geonet recorded the quake as weak intensity, measuring 2.4.

It had a depth of 14km, and was located within 5km of the township.


An egg carton catching fire yesterday saw an early call for Waipukurau volunteer firefighters.

Just before 6.30am the Waipukurau Brigade was called to a home in Porritt Place.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Glen Millar said a man was cooking eggs for breakfast, when the carton came into contact with an element on the stove.

Aside from alot of smoke, there was no fire damage.

Mr Millar said the man was by the stove when the carton caught alight, highlighting the important safety message to never leave cooking unattended.
