The Central Hawke's Bay District Council is to release its draft District Plan for consultation next week.

The District Plan is a requirement under the Resource Management Act, with the current plan nearly 20 years old.

Mayor Alex Walker says things have changed significantly over the past 20 years, and the District Plan needs to reflect this to ensure we balance economic and residential growth, with protecting CHB's natural environment.

Some of the changes are significant, with a formal statutory review process expected to begin early next year.

Alex Walker says Council hope submissions from the community will help form a more robust version of the draft District Plan ahead of the statutory process.
