One person was flown to Hawke's Bay Hospital yesterday following a two car crash in Waipukurau.

Emergency services were called just after 11am to the accident on the corner of Takapau Road and Cook Street.

State Highway 2 was blocked on both lanes for a short time, with the road fully reopened just before midday.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.


A teenage boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries after leaping off a bus on Friday afternoon.

The incident happened on High Street in Waipawa just after 3.30pm after reports the boy jumped from the school bus while it was still moving.

Police are investigating the incident.


A scrub fire saw State Highway 2 closed north of Waipawa on Saturday afternoon.

Fire & Emergency NZ were called to the fire just after 2.30pm near the intersection of Racecourse Road, prompting the road closure.

NZTA said the fire was fully extinguished and the road was reopened at 4pm.


The CHB Athletics Club had five athletes competing at the Jayda Akuhata-Brown Memorial Meet at the Hawke's Bay Regional Sports Park on Saturday.

Azy Parkinson, from Waipukurau School, won the gold medal in the 11 year old category after finishing first in the 100 metres, long jump and shot put, with a third placing in the discus.

This weekend the Club will send athletes to take part in the Dannevirke Amateur Athletic & Harrier Club Ribbon Meet on Sunday.
