One person died in a two-vehicle crash on the Saddle Rd on Friday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash, which was about 5kms from Woodville, shortly after 2pm.
Four more people were injured, two of them seriously.
The Saddle Road was closed for about 3 and a half hours on Friday afternoon.
Extra security measures taken by an Omakere farmer haven't deterred thieves from stealing nearly $4000 worth of equipment.
Senior Constable Glynn Sharp said on the night of the 30th September the farms woolshed was burgled, and the offenders have stolen two Heininger brand shearing machines valued at $1800 each.
He said it is the latest in a string of similar burglaries for this farmer, who had taken extra security precautions which proved to be futile.
Mr Sharp said Police believe the offender is probably employed in the shearing industry, as are his friends and family.
Information leading to the identity of the offender and/or the whereabouts of the stolen machines can be passed on to the Waipukurau Police Station or the anonymous Crimestoppers line.
A powhiri will be held today to welcome the new officer in charge of Central Hawke's Bay Police.
Sergeant Mel Leonard has been a Police Officer for 16 years, and has most recently been working as a sergeant in Wairoa.
She replaces Ross Gilbert who retired in June.
Hastings West and Napier were joint winners of the 2018 Watties Ross Shield tournament when the competition wrapped up on Saturday.
A large crowd turned out for the final games and prizegiving at Central Park, which saw the Dannevirke team take home the Life Members Salver for the best country side.
Meanwhile, five local players have been named in the Hawke's Bay Ross Shield team : they are Manaia Hauiti, Rico Phillips & Josh Augustine from Dannevirke; and Bryce Wind & Jahmaige Reti-Young from Central.
The Hawke's Bay team will play Southern North Island Primary Schools in Dannevirke from 12.30pm on Saturday, and Hawke's Bay Barbarians Schools in Napier on October 19.
