More than 800 properties were without power in Central Hawke's Bay on Sunday.

Power went out to Ashley Clinton, Hatuma, Ormondville and Takapau about
8 o'clock Sunday night after a 33,000V line tripped out.

Customer Relationship Manager for Unison Networks, Danny Gough, said most customers had their electricity restored about an hour and a half later.

He said the Silver Fern Farms plant at Takapau wasn't able to be fully restored until around midday yesterday.

Workmen attempted to find the fault all through the night on Sunday, but Mr Gough said a helicopter had to be used during daylight hours yesterday.

Two insulators on top of power poles were found to have cracks in.

Mr Gough said it was a "hard to find" issue, and is something that rarely happens.
