Just over $5000 was raised to help young children learn to swim from the recent Swim 4 Lives Swim-A-Thon.

In its fourth year, the event saw 78 people take part.

Spokesperson Nicki Heremaia said funds raised assist all CHB primary schools to participate in Deep Water Safety programmes, and provide additional support where needed.

One record was broken this year, with the Aqua Whales taking first place in the Teams section, swimming a total of 35 lengths in 10 minutes.

Nicki said special mention should be made of Silver Fern Farms Takapau for their continued support since the events inception, and whose team raised a whopping $1400 this year.

Nicki said organisers would like to thank everyone in the community who either took part in the event, sponsored a swimmer, made a donation or volunteered on the day.

Surveys can be completed at Tararua District Council Service Centres & Libraries, or on the Council website.

Surveys must be completed by May 10th.
