Pat Walshe has been elected the new chairman of the Dannevirke Community Board.
The Board held its first meeting on Monday, where Terry Hynes was also voted in as deputy chairman.
At the meeting, the Board also agreed to three funding requests - $400 towards the Weber Christmas Market; $650 to the Akitio Fire Force and Guardian Angels to hire the Dannevirke Town Hall for a community Christmas Dinner; and the Dannevirke Ministers Association receiving $300 for an afternoon tea at a community Christmas event.
Sponsorship from local businesses has enabled organisers of a bus trip to the 50 Shades of Green rally at the Beehive tomorrow to not charge those going.
The bus will leave the Leopard Hotel at 7am, and return around 2pm.
Isaacs Plumbing & Electrical, Stephensons Transport, Ruahine Motors, PGG Wrightson, Turtons Farm Supplies, Stevenson & Taylor and Vet Services HB have all sponsored the trip.
Limited seats remain on the bus, and anyone wanting to secure a seat, is asked to contact Trudy Hobson on 8555 267.
There have been reports of an accident on State Highway 2 near Otane this morning.
The accident, between a ute and a truck, is reported to have happened around 6.30am.
Conditions were said to be very foggy in the area.
