Proposals for a merger of the Primary Wool Co-Operative and Wools of NZ will be outlined at a meeting in Dannevirke today. Backers of the proposal say the merger would transform the wool industry. The Primary Wool Co-Operative was started in Hawke’s Bay nearly 50 years ago, and is owned by 1400 farmers, while Wools of NZ started in Christchurch about 15 years ago. Hawke's Bay Police are still seeing a rise in the number of heavy vehicle batteries being stolen. The batteries are being stolen from orchards, commercial businesses and rural properties. A number of batteries have also been stolen from the roadworks site at Pukehou. Two people were taken to hospital following a two car crash on the Te Aute Hill yesterday. Emergency services were called to the accident just after 1pm, with the northbound lane of State Highway 2 blocked for a short period of time. One person was trapped in one of the vehicles involved, and had to be freed by firefighters. Emergency services were called to a logging truck crash near Pahiatua yesterday. The accident happened on Mangaone Valley Road around 8.15 yesterday morning.
