Year 11 students at local secondary schools will be rostered home today.
The PPTA is beginning a series of industrial action over the next few weeks, with different year groups affected on different days.
A full day strike affecting all year levels is planned for next Wednesday, the 10th of May.

$133 million has been given to help with silt and debris removal in Hawke’s Bay following Cyclone Gabrielle.
Yesterday, Minister for Local Government, Kieran McAnulty, and Associate Minister for Cyclone Recover, Barbara Edmonds, announced a $170 million funding package for Hawke’s Bay and Tairawhiti.
$102 million would go to help councils process and dispose of all debris coming from residential properties, and $70 million for commercial properties, including farmers and growers, to help clean-up land and return to profit.
Hawke’s Bay Regional Council Chair, Hinewai Ormsby, said the funding was a good start and has been a long time coming.
She said the region is facing is largest waste management clean-up ever, and committed funding is already stretched to the limit.

Local Government Minister and Wairarapa MP Kieran McAnulty will become the lead Minister for Cyclone Recovery for Hawke’s Bay.
He is the third person in the role following Stuart Nash, who was stripped of his ministerial roles in March, and Meka Whaitiri, who announced she was yesterday she was leaving the Labour Party and becoming a candidate for Te Pati Maori at this year’s general election.

A 38-year-old man is to appear in the Palmerston North District Court today after feeling Police in Woodville yesterday.
Police were executing a pre-planned search warrant at an address in Woodville when the man fled.
He was spotted in Dannevirke later in the day and was arrested by Police following enquiries.
The man is appearing in Court on a charge of burglary.

One person was airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital yesterday following a fire in Pahiatua.
Emergency services were called to an address in the town just after 12.30pm.
The person was said to be in a serious condition.

Melia has been named as part of the HB U16 White representative team for 2023.
