A former Cabinet Minister has been appointed to lead the negotiating team for Hawke’s Bay during discussions with the Government on the Cyclone Gabrielle recovery package.
Chris Finlayson will be the lead negotiator working closely with the regions five Council chief executives and the Hawke’s Bay Regional Recovery Agency.
A media statement yesterday said the goal is to achieve an agreement that determines the key features of a voluntary buy-out scheme proposed for Category 3 properties, and contributes to the rebuilding an extending of infrastructure so it is fit for purpose.
Negotiations are expected to begin in the coming days.

A Dannevirke man has been remanded in custody following an alleged domestic incident.
Senior Constable Andy Walker from CHB Police said the offender, who is originally from Waipukurau, made his way back here following the incident.
He said the man was reportedly armed with a shotgun.
The offender was located in Takapau and was followed back towards Dannevirke.
Mr Walker said the man was initially stopped, but he hopped back in his vehicle and drove off.
He said Police were able to stop the vehicle using road spikes.
Mr Walker said the man was arrested without incident.
He said the man is facing several charges and has been remanded in custody.
