A man received critical injuries following a motor vehicle accident near Patangata at the weekend. Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Middle Road and Elsthorpe Roads just after 1.30pm Saturday. The 59-year-old man was treated at the scene before being flown to Hawke’s Bay Hospital and was later flown to Auckland City Hospital. The Police Serious Crash Unit was called to the scene, with the road closed for about five hours.
Fire appliances from Norsewood, Ashley Clinton, Tamatea Rural and Takapau were called to a vegetation fire at Ashley Clinton on Saturday evening. Fire & Emergency NZ says a fire spread in to 50m by 20m of harvested straw. The call came in just before 6pm Saturday.
Hawke’s Bay residents have until today to have their say on the independent review into Hawke’s Bay Civil Defence and its response to last February’s Cyclone Gabrielle. The review team is being led by former Police Commissioner Mike Bush, with more than 1000 responses so far. Details on the review, and a link to the feedback form, are available on the HBRC website.
Our run of fine weather will come to an end today. Metservice is forecasting heavy rain this afternoon for Hawke’s Bay, with heavy showers for the Tararua District. A southerly change will bring temperatures down to the mid to early twenties over the coming days.
