A man was flown to Hawke’s Bay Hospital on Friday following a crash between a motorbike and a ute towing a trailer.

The accident happened just after 11am on State Highway 2 on Herbert Street, near the intersection with Peel Street.

The section of road was closed, and traffic was diverted while emergency services worked at the scene.

The man taken to hospital was said to be in a serious condition.


A Hawke’s Bay Lotto player won a share of second division on Saturday night.

The ticket, sold to a MyLotto player from Hastings, was one of 29 to win second division, and is worth $17,433.


Trampolinist Lachie Kirk was named Supreme Sportsperson at the CHB Sports Awards.

Held on Friday night at the CHB Municipal Theatre, ten award winners were announced.

As well as winning the Supreme Award, Lachie also won the Junior Sportsperson category.

 After heavy rain last week, local areas could be in for strong winds later this week.

Metservices’ Severe Weather Outlook for the week says westerly winds could become severe gale for Tararua District and Hawke’s Bay south of Cape Kidnappers on Friday as the result of a strong west to southwest flow over the country.
