Tips, tricks, and lessons with Business After 5

What do you get if you combine the brains of one of the district’s premier function centres and an event hire company? An epic business event

Tips, tricks, and lessons learnt will all be on the table from two of the district’s events gurus at the Central Hawke’s Bay’s Business After 5 networking event this Thursday.

The monthly event will be held at Gwavas Garden Homestead, where the owners Phyllida and Stuart Gibson will be joined by Event Hire CHB owner Claire Griffiths.

“We want to share our experiences of hosting events, and our story – you know the good the bad and the unexpected – because we think the more we talk about business in the district, the more benefits we will see,” Gwavas Garden Homestead owner Phyllida Gibson said.

“Owning a business can feel isolating at times and so having events like these where we can have a meeting of minds, develops a camaraderie,” Gibson said.

Event Hire CHB’s Clare Griffiths felt presenting with the Gwavas team was the perfect pairing, as they are both in the business of events, including the biggest event of most people’s lives – their weddings.

“When you run a business that deals with one of the most exciting but stressful days in a person’s life, you have to be able to work well in high pressure situations, and there’s a lot of lessons we can pass on to other businesses,” Griffiths said.

Council supports these networking events because they create a conversation about how to add value to businesses, which in turn grows the local economy, Central Hawke’s Bay District Council Business Connector Nikita Skipper said.

“These BA5 events are about more than just catching up,” Skipper said.

“They’re about building a strong, supportive thriving business community.”

The upcoming months feature a strong lineup of hosting talent showcasing the district’s business expertise. The sisters behind Foxtrot Homes, who will discuss taking CHB wool global, while  AEON Insurance will address how  Cyclone Gabrielle and Covid have changed how businesses need to view their insurance, Skipper said.

“We’re proud to see so many local businesses getting involved and making relationships that enhance their mahi and underpins the value CHB has on offer.”
