Information is being sought on a burglary at an Elsthorpe property last Friday night.

A workshop at a property on Mangarara Road was broken into, with three motorbikes, chainsaw and other tools were taken.

A box of white contractors spray was also taken, along with a caravan.

The Lightweight caravan is green and white in colour, with the registration plate 95POA.

The offenders also smashed off the padlock on the front gate of the property.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police.

The Tararua District Council has begun its next Annual Plan process.

Mayor Tracey Collis said following two days of workshops they have looking at a rates increase of about 14 to 15 percent.

Councillors heard that general inflation is currently running at 7.2%, while infrastructure inflation is currently at 11.8%.

Mrs Collis said Councillors and staff will be working hard to find options to reduce the increases to more affordable levels.

She said tough decisions are needed on balancing affordability with service delivery.

Central Hawke’s Bays Community Christmas Carnival is being held this Friday.

The free event is being held in Waipukurau’s main street from 4pm to 8pm, with a number of market stalls, food trucks, games and entertainment – with Santa also paying a special visit.

Ruataniwha Street will be closed to traffic from midday until 10pm Friday.

Prior to the Carnival, a special Christmas-themed cave is being setup in preparation for Santa’s arrival in the Ruahine Motors showroom.

The cave will be open from Thursday through until Saturday.

Santa said he can’t wait to see everyone and hear what we’d love to find under the Christmas tree this year.

The Waipukurau Squash Club has almost doubled its membership this year.

The Club has seen a big increase in participation over the year, helped by the increased number of social and competitive playing opportunities.

This year the Club had a team compete at the Squash Super Champs Teams Event in Ashburton, finishing runner-up in its category, and won the Club of the Year at the Squash Eastern Awards, along with a number of individual awards.

And last weekend at the Squash New Zealand National Awards, Waipukurau was a finalist in the National Club of the Year, with Nicky Heremaia a finalist in the Volunteer of the Year category.
