Celebrate Takapau District’s 150th Anniversary- They Need Your Ideas

Takapau District will be celebrating its 150th anniversary - Labour Weekend 23-26th October 2026.  This is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our rich history and look forward to the future of our vibrant community. The organising group want to make this two –day event a celebration for everyone, and they need your help to make it memorable.  We’re reaching out to all local community groups, clubs, schools, and orgainsations to gather feedback on what you’d like to see and do during the event. 

Here’s how you can get involved:
# Share your ideas: What kind of activities, events, static displays, demonstration games, activities would you like to share? Are there any traditions, stories, or cultural elements you want to highlight?

#Get your group involved: We’d love to see community groups, clubs, and schools participate in this celebration. Whether it’s hosting an event, providing entertainment, or contributing in any way, your involvement will be crucial to making this a success.

After-hours access is now available at Te Huinga Wai - The Knowledge and Learning Hub (Waipukurau Library). 

Once this membership is added on to your library card you can access the building after hours until 11pm each day, including Saturday after 1.30pm and all day Sunday. This space can be used to run night classes, hold meetings, study, or you can approach us if you have an idea about how you could be using the library after hours. To get inducted speak to library staff or text: 027 206 3020More information is available here: https://www.chblibrary.nz/our-services/connect-to-learn/

CHB Community Patrols - Volunteers Wanted

Community Patrols Waipukurau are looking for volunteers to help with evening community patrols across Waipukurau & Waipawa.  Patrols usually take 2-2.5 hours, and volunteers patrol in teams of two. Volunteers can expect to be patrolling schools and businesses, checking for insecure buildings, damage and looking out for suspicious activity which is reported directly to local police. Fire Restrictions

Ahuriri
Heretaunga, Tukituki West, Tukituki East, Southern Hawkes Bay Coast and Porangahau - Restricted

Tararua
Tararua Central, Tararua South, Tararua West, Pahiatua and Eketāhuna - Restricted.

A restricted fire season means people need a permit to light an open-air fire. You can go to www.checkitsalright.nz to check what fire season you are in and to apply for a permit if needed.

CHB Water Restrictions 

As of Thursday 12th December all of Central Hawke's Bay is on Level 3 water restrictions. 

HAND-HELD HOSES ONLY ON ALTERNATE DAYS 

Watering gardens

  • Odds and evens apply, so odd numbered houses can use hand-held hoses on odd date days of the month and even numbered houses can use hand-held hoses on even date days of the month. 

  • Sprinklers are NOT permitted at any time.

  • Hoses fitted with a trigger nozzle can be used before 10 am and after 4 pm but cannot be left running unattended.

  • Watering cans and buckets are permitted.

Washing of vehicles and/or buildings

  • Washing of vehicles and/or buildings is permitted only with a bucket and sponge, or at a commercial carwash.

Swimming pools

  • Residents are permitted to top-up a pool or spa using a hose fitted with a trigger nozzle, watering can or bucket for a maximum of 15 minutes per day.

Hard surfaces

  • Hosing of hard surfaces as part of general cleaning is NOT permitted. Spot cleaning for health, safety or emergency reasons only is permitted.

  • Dannevirke: Alternate Days

  • Eketāhuna: Get Ready (no restrictions)

  • Norsewood: Get Ready (no restrictions)

  • Pahiatua:  Alternate Days

  • Pongaroa: Get Ready (no restrictions)

  • Woodville: Get Ready (no restrictions)

Alternate Day Restrictions
Hand-held hoses only on alternate days, i.e. houses with even street numbers on even days and houses with odd street numbers on odd days.
Examples of Hand-held hoses include sprinklers, hoses and water blasters
