Final results of the 2022 Local Body Elections were released last Friday. The closest race was for the newly created Tamaki-nui-a-Rua Maori Ward for the Tararua District Council. Naioma Chase won the seat with a three-vote margin over Lorraine Stephenson. Chase recorded 190 votes, with Stephenson 187. The other candidate, Dot Watson, received 58 votes. It is the final day of the 2022 Wakely Shield tournament. Yesterday’s semi-finals saw Centralines CHB play Saracens, with Saracens winning the game 35-20. Central Manager, Tim Ewen, said Saracen’s scored three tries in the first half of the game to lead 15-3 at half-time. Central’s first half points came from a penalty to Max Annand. Disruption for motorists today as the Central Hawke’s Bay District Councils’ Three Waters Team undertakes work on the intersection of Racecourse Road and SH2 in Waipukurau. The work will be undertaken between 7am and 4pm, with the northbound leg closed. The southbound lane will be open. A 36-year-old Hastings man will face a number of charges following a Police pursuit in Central Hawke’s Bay last Sunday. Sergeant Neil Baker said the male was initially stopped after a number of complaints about his driving heading south on SH2 towards Waipawa. Cooks Tooth Road has been reopened to all traffic. The Central Hawke’s Bay District Council had restricted the road to light vehicles only earlier this week following last week’s heavy rain. More than 50 slips and slumps are affecting roads in Central Hawke’s Bay. Heavy rain again last week further affected the local roading network, with the Council expecting the ground to keep moving over the coming days and weeks. A person was seriously injured after a tree was struck by lightning in Dannevirke yesterday afternoon. Emergency services were called around 3.20pm to the incident, believed to be in Stanley Street.
