The Mangatewainui Bridge on State Highway 2 south of Norsewood is down to one lane due to cracking on the bridge deck. Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency said despite the cracking, the bridge remained safe for use by traffic. Two men have been arrested in relation to the death of a Tararua man in Taupo earlier this year. Ryan Woodford, who was from Pahiatua, but had been living in a motel in Taupo, died on the 6th of March. Detective Sergeant Andy Livingstone said yesterday a 31-year-old man and a 40-year-old man have been arrested and charged with murder. A Huia bird stolen from the Dannevirke Gallery of History nearly two years ago will soon be returned to its rightful place. Police received a tip-off as to the whereabouts of the bird, which was the female of a pair shot in the late 19th Century, and gifted to the Gallery in 1990. CHB Police made two further arrests in relation to an aggravated robbery at Mobil Waipukurau last week. The incident happened on Tuesday night when three people entered the store. Police are investigating an aggravated robbery at the Waipukurau Mobil Service Station on Tuesday night. Police were alerted to a group of three people who entered the store at around 10:15pm. There were 216 new cases of COVID-19 in Hawke’s Bay yesterday. 19 of those were in Central Hawke’s Bay, which gives the district a total of 1476 active COVID cases.
