Representatives from the SPCA Head Office will be in Central Hawke’s Bay today outlining reasons for the closure of the local centre. Recently it was announced the centre would be closed permanently, with the SPCA striking a deal with Vet Services HB to provide care for animals requiring it. Local Police are investigating the theft of three excavator buckets which were taken from the worksite at Kokomoko Bridge on Porangahau Road over the weekend. Senior Constable Andy Walker said the buckets are suitable for 2 to 5 tonne diggers, with some weighing up to 350kgs. He said a digger at the worksite had been started with a screwdriver, and suspects this is how the offenders may have moved the buckets. Three people were arrested in Porangahau on Wednesday. Sergeant Neil Baker said Waipukurau Police together with staff from Hawkes Bay, including two dog handlers, searched a Pörangahau address for a wanted male from Hutt Valley. The 35-year-old, who was wanted for multiple warrants for his arrest, was located without incident. There will be a full water shutdown for the Waipawa township tonight. The Central Hawke’s Bay District Council says the shutdown is part of the final stages required to make upgrades to the network as well as adding additional assets as part of its Waipawa Fire Fighting and Shortfall programme. A Central Hawke’s Bay man has gone on trial for the murder of Outlaws motor cycle club member Peter Lui. Traffic on the Saddle Road was disrupted for a large part of last Friday after a truck and trailer veered off the road into a ditch near the Cook Road intersection.
