Two men have been arrested in relation to the death of a Tararua man in Taupo earlier this year.

Ryan Woodford, who was from Pahiatua, but had been living in a motel in Taupo, died on the 6th of March.

Detective Sergeant Andy Livingstone said yesterday a 31-year-old man and a 40-year-old man have been arrested and charged with murder.

He said the investigation has spanned several Police districts and has involved a large number of staff and effort to resolve.

The two men are due to appear in Taupō District Court today.

A 71-year-old man was flown to Hawke’s Bay Hospital after falling from his motorbike over Queen’s Birthday Weekend.

Senior Constable Andy Walker said the man was riding his bike to Porangahau on Sunday when the accident happened on Saleyards Bridge which is under construction at the moment.

Mr Walker said the bridge has some wood on it, which was slippery.

The man suffered head and neck injuries.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Central Hawke’s Bay currently sits under 100.

Yesterday the Hawke’s Bay DHB reported 14 new cases in the district, giving a total of 83 active cases.
